Thank you for another successful Blue Ribbon Month!
We did it! Together we made April’s Blue Ribbon Month Campaign a tremendous success. We planned and participated in events and special projects that raised $162,097 to support One Hope United’s programs and services to prevent child abuse. Together, by sharing stories in conversation and via social media, we raised awareness about child abuse in our communities and educated one another about the ways we can work together to prevent child abuse.
While Blue Ribbon Month is over for this year, our advocacy must go on. We advocate for children’s safety every day, and every day One Hope United staff go above and beyond to strengthen families and positively impact the lives of the children they serve.
This year we provided services to more than 10,600 children and their families. While the bare bones of our work is contracted by government, we rely on private donations to elevate the quality of services and respond to the realities of day to day life for the families and children we serve. The impact we have on clients is profound: of the families we serve that are high risk for abuse, 98% remained free from abuse and neglect.
The funds you helped us raise through the Blue Ribbon Month Campaign will go towards protecting children and strengthening families in our child abuse prevention programs. Here’s what we accomplished together this month:

Together these companies raised $8,200 for One Hope United prevention Programs.
The 10th Annual Blue Ribbon Event on April 21 was a major success for the Northern Region. Approximately 185 people attended and over $104,000 was raised. Fund Development staff did a wonderful job keeping expenses at only 16% so that $.84 of every dollar raised could go directly to prevention programs. One of the hottest selling auction items was homemade dog biscuits donated by Executive Director Mark McHugh and his wife. The biscuits were finally claimed by a lucky bidder for $1,000! Another supporter of Blue Ribbon Month was the Old Navy store in Vernon Hills. They organized a diaper drive for OHU clients as their part of the Go Blue campaign in April, donating over 800 diapers. Rick Pilcher, store manager organized the effort which will continue this May.
Kicking off Blue Ribbon Month the Eras of Hope event was held at the Hubbard Inn of Chicago on April 6. Attendees celebrated One Hope United’s 118 year history with a fashion show representing the Thrilling Thirties, Fabulous Fifties, Super Seventies and Into the Future. With 120 guests in attendance, the event raised $8,657 for OHU! Another fundraiser held with a local partner organization was the Breakfast at Tiffany’s event on April 27, at Le Thrift, an authentic designer consignment boutique, and M.Go Fashion Salon. Guests paid a $10 donation to attend and enjoyed discounts on merchandise, Tiffany blue manicures, blow-out hair styling, and a raffle with some great prizes, including a piece of Tiffany jewelry. The event raised $300 for OHU!

Hudelson Region added a tasty twist to their Dine and Dance event in Effingham this year. Besides enjoying good food and great company, attendees participated in a murder mystery dinner with the theme, “Death by Chocolate.” Guests had a great time trying to figure out who committed the crime while enjoying a great dinner and chocolate-themed treats. This event brought in $6,739!
The region’s Golf “Fore” Hope was held April 20 at Colonial Golf Course in Sandoval, Ill. Despite being the first golf event in nearly two decades, 13 teams of four and over 20 volunteers made the outing a major success! Jayme Godoyo, fund development officer, wasted no time planning the event for next year, which will be on June 28, 2014. Golf “Fore” Hope far exceeded our expectations, bringing in $8,891 to help our programs!
Hudelson’s last major event for April was Blue Ribbon Trivia in Springfield on April 27. Tables of 10 put on their thinking caps to compete in 10 rounds of trivia, one of which was dedicated solely to Blue Ribbon Month this year! Another successful year of trivia raised $11,867!
