Returning to school after winter break can bring i

Returning to school after winter break can bring it’s challenges. Here are some tips to help the new year get off to a great start:

💤 Make a wind-down routine
Getting enough sleep at night is critical to a successful day. Bringing a calming presence to bedtime and starting the routine early can help your child prepare for the day ahead.

☀️ Prepare for tomorrow the night before
Collecting school supplies, winter gear, and packing lunch all the night before makes the mornings that much easier. Setting things out for the morning can set a positive tone for the day!

📝 Write letters to friends they’ve missed
We’ve all got friends we haven’t seen in a while, why not make their day with a handwritten note! It can help kids feel connected to those they are missing and have something to look forward to handing out when they return.

🏡 Have a practice day at home
Practice makes perfect! Create a simple calendar or task list that allows your child to practice returning to a daily schedule.

💙 Normalize feelings of excitement and nerves
Returning to school can be a mix of emotions and all of them are normal. Be sure to talk with your child about what they are feeling and how you can support their needs.

For #NationalMentoringMonth, we want to highlight Mr. Tony from Bridgeport Early Learning Center, a teacher and mentor to many students, teaching them life skills, learning, and life beyond the classroom. So much so, that students returned to Bridgeport after their high school graduations to see him!

Mr. Tony's favorite quote about being a good mentor is: "Every child deserves a champion—an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and who insists they become the best they can possibly be.” - Rita Pierson

We are grateful for teachers like Mr. Tony, whose mentorship lasts a lifetime.
